I can’t believe how popular Essential Oils have gotten!
Essential oils have changed my life! I love teaching people to empower their health and well being using essential oils. As popular as they have become and with so much information available, I find there is still so much to offer you.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the extracts that come from the essence of a plant. You find the essence of essential oils in various parts of a plant. For example, you find citrus oils such as orange, lemon or grapefruit, in the peel. Tangerine peel is also an herb in Chinese medicine. You can immediately smell the essence of these fruits in the peel when you hold it to your nose or you cut it open . This is why the zest of a lemon is so often used in cooking. It have a strong aroma.
You will find other essential oils in flowers, such as rose, jasmine, or honeysuckle. When I mention these flowers, can you smell them already from the memories in your mind?
Certain woods contain wonderful scents, like cedarwood, patchouli, sandalwood or myrrh.
Spices, such as clove, ginger, cinnamon, cumin, are some of the aromas you recognize from the kitchen. Most of these help your digestion.
The oils of some herbs are in their leaves, such as basil, sage, mint, pine, cypress and eucalyptus. The scents of each of these oils is all encompassing and open your breath – ahhhhhh.
There are so many qualities of essential oils which I won’t get into here but you can read my blog for further info.
How to Use Essential Oils
The thing is, many people who are using them don’t know much about them except what they read in their resources.
I’ve started this blog because essential oils have gotten so popular yet. so many people are using and selling them without exploring the possibilities. All they know is what they learn from the literature that comes from the company they affiliate with.
My Chinese Medicine teacher, Jeffrey Yuen, taught the uses of Essential oils. My experience with them comes from years of study and working with them. It’s been a process of learning how to fail in order to succeed.
I’ve read and studied the properties of essential oils. Yet, when I applied them for specific conditions, they weren’t effective. I was stuck. I loved the smells but the therapeutic quality escaped me.
Going Deeper with Essential Oils
Finally I chose to go a bit deeper and to cultivate my own relationship with the oils. While meditating on the oils I became hooked on the transcendent quality the oils create. I developed a relationship with them. I have created a unique association with the oils by taking the time to explore their scents. This has helped me use the oils in a different way. I expand on what I’ve learned and developed a deeper sense of the beauty and qualities the oils offer.
Expanding your connection with Essential Oils
I’ve been using the oils for years. I have become more intimate with their more homeopathic or subtle qualities. Less is definitely more. You don’t need to oil yourself up with an essence. It’s an essence. All you need is the tiniest bit.
By connecting with my work, you can begin to experiment outside the ‘recipes’ you know. You can discover which oils are your favorite to use for which reasons.
You can discover why clary sage scents the air making you swoon. How does peppermint wakes you up or rose so calms you down.
One thing I don’t enjoy about the current boom in essential oils is the advice to ingest the oils. This is such a bad idea. Most essential oils are not organic. If they don’t have the latin/scientific name on the label, chances are they are not organic.
You should never ingest your oils . There are other ways to use them.
You can use the Aromatically, diffuse them in a diffusor so you can inhale them and scent your room. This method is helpful for the lungs
You can use them Topically – it take 26 seconds for an oil on the skin to enter the blood stream. This method is one that I use when working with most health conditions. You only need a drop to be effective. More than that will shut your body down from taking the scent in. We are very sensitive to this method of absorption. This is why, it is best to dilute your oil.
You can dilute your oil to 5% of the oil to 100 drops of carrier oil. That’s 5 xls of carrier oil. So if you use 6 drops of an oil mix it in with 94 drops of the carrier oil you prefer.
There are many carrier oils, depending on what you are making your oils up for, for example:
Are you helping with pain relief?
Mental or emotional stress such as anxiety or depression?
Whatever the situation you are working with, if you plan to apply them to the skin, always use a diluted amount.
Less, really is, more
The rule with essential oils is that less is more. If you use too much of them, they stop working and you shut the body down so as not to receive them. This can be an expensive and wasteful situation so you don’t want to do that!
